Sierra Storytelling Festival: Trees and Tales

The 32nd outing of the yarnful weekend'll bring the stories to Nevada City's historic North Columbia Schoolhouse Cultural Center.

SUMMER, TREES, AND STORIES... are woven together as tightly as a made-at-camp friendship bracelet. The season brings us warmth, the warmth that makes being outdoors a pleasure, while the trees are silent (but very present) companions to our alfresco activities. And if that activity is built around listening to a tale told in dramatic and thrilling fashion? You'll likely remember that moment, whether a campfire is present or not, for years to come. But finding summery yarn-spinning fun among the trees can be rather challenging, especially if we don't have a camp-out planned in the near future. And if sharing a good ol' yarn isn't our strength? Then we need to invite a pal along to our woodsy adventure, the sort of pal who can tell a thriller, a tear-jerker, or a bit of historical lore. The Sierra Storytelling Festival embraces our longing for a natural setting, a good story, and summer skies, and it does so each summer at the...

NORTH COLUMBIA SCHOOLHOUSE CULTURAL CENTER... in Nevada City. The 2017 dates are Friday, July 21 through Sunday, July 23, and a host of talented tellers of heart-gladdening tales will stand before audiences to delight and enrapture. A Story Slam, Open Tellings, and a line-up of top-notch tellers, some hailing from the Bay Area, will gather rapt audiences near during the three-dayer, and a Children's Concert is on the schedule, too. Perhaps you'll pick up some style tips on burnishing your own story-telling style, or maybe you'll simply lap up the lovely and very, very old tradition of a teller, a listener, a story, and the beautiful outdoors. If a camp-out with tales isn't in your near future, you can find your way to the trees, the sky, and fictional worlds built out of words, in Nevada City.
