WonderCon 2012

The San Francisco pop culture party sets up shop in Anaheim.

POP WEEKEND: WonderCon, the mega pop-culture convention that's run by the Comic-Con International people (you're familiar with them, yes?) has a few milestones under its sparkly, Wonder Woman-type super belt. It recently marked a quarter century. It has been overseen by the Comic-Conans for a decade. And its longtime home, San Francisco's own Moscone Center? Well that's undergoing a refurb, meaning that the convention would have to look for new digs. Those digs moved further south, probably much to the delight to OC fans and less to the NorCalers -- we get it, we do -- but the party'll be as big, as splashy, as starry, as comic-book-packed, and it'll be soon: March 16-18, in Anaheim.

ON THE BILL: People in outlandish costumes. Illustrating legends. Icons like Sergio Aragones, Mike Mignola, and Mark Evanier. And the all-important Masquerade. As with Comic-Con, the three-day schedule is brimming with to-dos and places to be (and potential conflicts if you want to be in all areas at all times). Check it out and start plotting what autographs/books/posters you'll snatch up first. Comic-Con is still a few months away; you'll want to sate the particular thirst for all things pop-culture-dom before July, right? Because you know you'll be totally ready to do it all again come summertime.
