It’s fun. It’s healthy. It makes a difference. And it’s your national park! This year we will be celebrating the 75th Anniversary of the iconic Golden Gate Bridge, the landmark that bridges us all and the centerpiece of our Golden Gate National Parks. As part of the ongoing celebration, we will be hosting community volunteer events and projects throughout the year and throughout the parks, keeping our treasured national parks at Golden Gate healthy, vibrant and a place for all forever.
Planting season in the parks is but once a year, during the rainy season. Unfortunately, our rainy season has not been very wet so far. Even so, park staff and volunteers have been diligently picking away at the dry ground, planting our young plants and providing a bit of extra TLC by hand watering.
Planting season is vital to restoring our park grounds, native habitat areas, and wildlife corridors. This past year, over 200,000 plants were grown in our Native Plant Nurseries with the help of volunteers. We’re now mid-way through our planting season, but still have lots of work to do. To date, approximately 40% of the plants have been planted.
We would love your help to finish out the season, get the remaining thousands of young plants in the ground and start the spring with happy, healthy plants bringing new life to the parks. By pitching in and bringing the whole family, you will be revitalizing our parks—and planting a seed of stewardship with the next generation.
