In July, we partnered with Family Giving Tree and United Way Bay Area for Supporting Our Schools, a backpack and school supply drive for students in our communities that do not have access to fundamental academic resources.
Multiple events were held to bring the community and Silicon Valley's companies together, in efforts to fill backpacks with supplies and donate to students ready for the new school year. At the Facebook headquarters in Menlo Park, employees assembled and donated a total of 800 backpacks. The Supporting Our Schools backpack building event at Family Giving Tree warehouse completed 1,300 backpacks and 900 backpacks filled with supplies were donated by companies throughout the Bay Area. A grand total of 3,000 backpacks were assembled. All benefits went to local schools and the Boys and Girls Club.
Washington Elementary School is one school in particular that received 100% backpack coverage for their student population. Approximately 500 backpacks were distributed throughout Kindergarten-5th grades.
