Brady announced the birth Wednesday after showing up 16 minutes late to his weekly press availability , calling it "a wonderful experience in my life."
"Everyone's great," the New England Patriots quarterback said. "I didn't get much sleep."
Brady said he and Bundchen haven't selected a name, although he at least could have given it consideration in the past few weeks. The proud dad had learned the baby's gender, but guarded it like his team's playbook from his wife, who didn't want to know.
“I wanted to find out and she didn’t, so she said, ‘Go ahead.’ It will be a surprise for her," he said.
Bundchen, 29, and Brady, 32, were officially married last February in a private ceremony in Los Angeles and redid their vows in a follow-up wedding in Costa Rica in April with far more friends and fanfare.
The baby is Bundchen's first. Brady has a two-year-old son, Jack, from his previous relationship with Bridget Moynahan.
With the Patriots having lost three of their last four games, Brady said he couldn't afford to take the day off and skip practice.
“I owe it to the guys in the locker room to really focus on what I need to do for this team,” Brady said, “and put all these emotions aside and kind of come in here with a great sense of determination on what we have to do as a team. So, as a captain and a leader of this team, the last thing they need from me is to be really not focused on the job at hand. There’s plenty of things for me to really be doing here this week.”
