“Burn Notice” Star Gets Cool Deal in DUI Case

Burn Notice star claims he was only borderline drunk

The heat is no longer on Jeffrey Donovan.

The Burn Notice star had faced as much as a year behind bars after he was arrested for DUI for almost hitting a Miami cop car in 2009.

But cooler heads appear to have prevailed as Donovan recently pleaded guilty to a reckless driving charge in Miami-Dade court, TMZ.com reports.

The plea helps the 42-year-old Donovan avoid jail time and an embarassing trial for the USA Network's golden boy.

In July 2009, Donovan was having a grand time at the Fontainebleau when he nearly crashed his Audi coupe into a police cruiser that was stopped at a traffic light.

Not really the smartest move for a handsome former secret agent, but Donovan compounded the blunder by opening his mouth.

“The only mistake I made tonight was drinking Benadryl with 3 glasses of wine,” he told police as he was being led away on DUI charges.

Donovan also told the cop he was "only borderline" drunk. A judge sentenced Donovan to six months probation and a $1,000 fine.
