Catherine Zeta-Jones Receives Honor From Queen Elizabeth II

Actress Catherine Zeta-Jones can now add another accolade to her career—one that is especially close to home for her.

The Oscar-winning actress, 40, who was born in Swansea, Wales, received the honor of Commander of the Order of the British Empire Saturday by Queen Elizabeth II, The Associated Press reported.

Zeta-Jones got her professional start working in British television and theater before becoming a Hollywood star and marrying actor Michael Douglas.

"I am absolutely thrilled with this honor," said Zeta-Jones in a statement. "As a British subject, I feel incredibly proud. At the same time, it is overwhelming and humbling. And my mum and dad are delighted beyond belief."

Other honorees announced as part of the queen’s official birthday include screenwriter Ronald Harwood; scientist Charles Kao; actress Sophie Okenedo; and musicians Graham Nash and John Cale.

The honors consist of in the following order: knighthoods, Commander of the Order of the British Empire (CBE), Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE), and Member of the Order of the British Empire (MEB).
