Chaz Bono: “I Want a Body Like Michael Chiklis”

Documentary of his sex change premieres at Sundances

Chastity Bono spent a lifetime "Becoming Chaz," and that's the name of the movie that details his struggles with gender identity and the decision that led to hom becoming a man.

Born the daughter of Sonny and Cher, Bono says in the documentary that he always knew he was supposed to be male.

"I've hated my body since puberty," he says, adding that as a little girl he would go to sleep at night "praying [he'd] wake up as a boy."

"Becoming Chaz" shows Bono having his breasts surgically removed, getting hormone shots and mulling the genital reassignment surgery that transformed him. Bono also talks openly about his battle with substance abuse and his sex life with longtime girlfriend Jenny Elia.

He knows he will never look like an Adonis, but Bono figures he can shoot for looking like actor Michael Chiklis.

"I'm never going to be a little guy," he says.

Cher admits in the film that she was "terrified" to see Chaz after his breast surgery. She also says she thinks Sonny, who died in 1998, would have been supportive of Chaz's decision.
