There is no wrath like an attention-seeking TV host/businessman/possibly maybe Presidential candidate/soundbite Gatling gun scorned.

So learned Jerry Seinfeld, after the comedian canceled a scheduled appearance at a charity benefit hosted by Donald Trump's son, Eric.

Seinfeld agreed to perform at the event back in January - well before Trump launched his semi-campaign for President and began publicly questioning President Barack Obama's citizenship. A representative for Seinfeld released the following statement:

"Jerry feels this kind of demagoguery has no place in public discourse. He has respectfully withdrawn from the event, and is making a contribution both to the Eric Trump Foundation and to [St. Jude]."

Trump, of course, immediately lashed out at Seinfeld in a strongly-worded letter, which ignores Seinfeld's promise to still contribute money to St. Jude's and instead fires potshots at the comedian's failed TV show, "The Marriage Ref."

"I just learned you canceled a show for my son's charity," Trump writes, "Because of the fact that I am being very aggressive with respect to President Obama, who is doing an absolutely terrible job as our leader."

"We don't care that you broke your commitment," he continues, "Even though the children of St. Jude are very disappointed, and despite the fact that your manager clearly stated you are 'truly a man of his word'."

"What I do feel badly about is that I agreed to do, and did, your failed show, 'The Marriage Ref,' even though I thought it was absolutely terrible . . . Despite its poor ratings, I didn't cancel on you like you canceled on my son and St. Jude. I only wish I did."

He ends with "you should be ashamed of yourself."

The event will continue, with musician Bret Michaels taking over Seinfeld's spot.
