Drew Barrymore: “I'd Be A Good Parent”

As a child star born into a Hollywood dynasty, being a kid wasn't easy for Drew Barrymore — but the star told the U.K.'s Daily Mail that the lessons she learned would make her a great mom.

"I'd definitely be the kind of parent who enabled my child's dreams," she told the paper. "I have the blueprints of what not to do… I think I'd be a good parent, actually."

And though she's been married twice — to bar owner Jeremy Thomas and comedian Tom Green — Drew, who's been linked once more to on-again, off-again boyfriend Justin Long, said she hasn't given up on tying the knot.

"I'd never say never to marriage and kids," she said.

Drew's own childhood was plagued by drug and alcohol use, as well as troubled relationships with her parents, and she said working in Hollywood made it difficult to relate to her peers.

"I grew up in a family that was multifaceted, sexually oriented, and pretty much open to everything. And because I was working, my friends were all adults," Drew said. "I had a tough time going to different schools because people knew me from films and I was the fat child who got beaten up every day."

But after rehab and a few key roles — including a famous cameo in "Scream" — Drew made films such as "Never Been Kissed" and "The Wedding Singer" and found herself blossoming into an adult star.

Now, in addition to acting, she's turned to production and directing (she helmed last year's "Whip It"), and in doing so, she said she's found her real home.

"Starting my production company was a big turning point for me," she said of Flower Films, which produced her "Charlie's Angels" films. "I was accomplishing things and I found a real tribe – the family I'd been looking for all those years. It's been a difficult time emotionally, but I'm happier now than I've ever been."

And Drew, now 35, intends to approach the future naturally.

"F*** surgery!" she said. "I'm so curious as to what's going to happen naturally that I can't imagine wanting to alter things just yet… I'd rather look like a basset hound than do that to my face!"
