"Everyone's a little behind the times," she told Access on Friday of her latest ink, the word "Love" on her right ear. "I've had this for a few months and no one's ever noticed."
She explained that she had it done to drown out negativity.
"I have 'Love' right here to block out all the crap that everyone throws into your ears," she said, pointing to her right ear. "I don't really care about it. [You're] only supposed to hear the things coming from the people that genuinely love you. My dad was getting a new tattoo on his arm and I thought it sounded cool."
Speaking of her dad, Miley also discussed her "Every Rose Has Its Thorn" performance on ABC's "Good Morning America" with Bret Michaels on Friday morning, and told Access she'd love to have fans like Bret and Billy Ray.
"[Bret] still makes albums that he loves and is proud of and he has those kind of fans like my dad has, like I hope I have one day, those ones that have been there for 30 years and still try to go to every show," Miley said. "He's the greatest guy."
Though Bret's been in the news for his health woes recently, Miley – who recorded the track "Nothin' To Lose" with him before he got sick – said she was proud to not be a fair-weather fan.
"So many people are like, 'He's legendary' — they only did that now that he got sick. Everyone waits until someone is sick or has passed away to finally say 'You did such a good job.' You hound 'em, hound 'em, hound 'em till finally you've lost the chance to say how much you appreciated their work," she said. "[Bret's] an inspiration, I think, to musicians everywhere."
