Lady Gaga, Target Break Up Over Political Contributions

Gaga ends a bad romance with the retail giant.

It appears that the love game between Lady Gaga and retailer Target has come to an end.

The pop megastar has pulled out of a business deal with the Minneapolis, Minn., based company due to a ongoing controversy over its political donations, reports The Advocate.

The "Born This Way" singer is a major backer of LGBT initiatives, which put her at odds with Target because of contributions it gave to MN Forward, a political action committee that supported Tom Emmer, an anti-gay gubernatorial candidate, last year.

Given her outspokenness on gay issues, many observers were surprised that she entered a deal with Target at all, a subject the singer addressed in an interview with Billboard in February.

"That discussion was one of the most intense conversations I've ever had in a business meeting," she said. "Part of my deal with Target is that they have to start affiliating themselves with LGBT charity groups and begin to reform and make amends for the mistakes they've made in the past...our relationship is hinged upon their reform in the company to support the gay community and to redeem the mistakes they've made supporting those groups."

Those "mistakes" were apparently not corrected, meaning that Target perhaps underestimated the seriousness of Gaga's poker face.
