Spare any change for Levi Johnston’s mayoral bid?

The unemployed father of Sarah Palin’s grandson has filed necessary paperwork that allows him to raise money and make a run at Palin’s old job, Reuters reported.

According to documents filed with the Alaska Public Offices Commission and obtained by TMZ, Johnston, 20, states that he intends to run as a candidate in the “City of Wasilla 2011” election.

The former hockey hunk does not specify that he’s running for Wasilla mayor, wich Sarah Palin used as a springboard to the governor's office and an eventual vice presidential bid.

But Johnston announced earlier this month that he’d partnered with a production crew to begin shooting a new reality show called “Loving Levi: The Road to the Mayor's Office.”

“He was going to do this, even if this wasn't a reality show," Johnston’s manager Tank Jones told RadarOnline said at the time of the attempt to crash City Hall.

With the Wasilla mayoral election set for Oct. 4, 2011, Johnston “is free to do all things associated with a campaign, including accepting monetary contributions,” according to Politico.

News that Johnston is moving forward with his political bid comes a week after he and ex-fiancée Bristol Palin reached a custody agreement over their son, Tripp.

Under the terms of the agreement, Palin reportedly receives primary physical custody over the toddler, with Johnston given visitation twice a week.

The pair broke off their second engagement within weeks of announcing to Us Weekly magazine in July that they were back together.
