Lady Gaga Egged After Wheelchair Stunt

In Sydney show

Lady Gaga was pelted with eggs in Sydney by some angry fans after she performed on stage in a wheelchair.

The animated pop singer had dodged the eggs as she was leaving an Australian gay bar, Entertainment Weekly reported, but Rolling Stone reports they hit some in her entourage.

At the concert, Gagaperformed her new song, "You and I," in a funeral-like black shroud and mermaid tail in a wheelchair at the invite-only Sydney concert, according to Australia's Herald Sun.

Founder of the Life Rolls On Foundation, Jess Billauer, was also unimpressed with the stunt. He told Radar Online that although he hadn't seen the show, he wished Lady Gaga would reach out to the disabled community.

"I invite her to learn more about the 5.6 million Americans who live with paralysis," he told the site. "They, like me, unfortunately, don't use a wheelchair for shock value."

"I extend a personal invitation to Lady Gaga to attend one of our Life Rolls On events where quadriplegics and paraplegics surf, skate and snowboard, so she can see how much is possible beyond a wheelchair. Maybe that will be the most shocking to her of all."

Roman Reed, a lobbyist for research on spinal cord injuries, also tweeted a response: "Dear @lady gaga how about using your celebrity status 2 try 2 get us out of wheelchairs. Instead of cruising one. Cool?!" he said, according to Entertainment Weekly.

While Gaga hasn't given an explanation to her shocking dress change, Entertainment Weekly notes that on Taiwanese talk show Channel V, she said her new mermaid-tailed alter ego Yuyi the Mermaid was in "incubation."

The international pop star is no stranger to controversy. For the MTV Music Awards last September, she arrived and accepted her trophy for "Bad Romance" in a dress made of raw meat.
