"The Twilight Saga's" Robert Pattinson said his overnight success initially caused him to predict his death – saying at one point he thought he'd be dead by the time he hit age 30.

"I guess I just thought if too many good things happen, then you're going to die at 30," Robert said in an interview with ABC's Nightline on Monday. "I was like, 'I didn't want that to happen.'" Adding, "It's God saying, 'You shouldn't have asked for too much.'"

In the interview, the actor admitted he turned to a prescription medication before his audition for the first "Twilight" movie.

"I knew it was going to be a long audition because I was doing a screen test and it was at the director's house," he said of his first audition. "Twenty minutes before I had to leave, I suddenly started panicking. Luckily, the person I was staying with had enough Valium on their bedside table. I stole it. Probably one of the best decisions I've ever made."

In a separate interview with Parade magazine, Robert explained that he has something in common with his character, Edward, who insists that he and Bella wait until they're married before having sex.

"Edward is old fashioned. Nowadays, everyone just goes around screwing everyone for no reason. I guess Edward doesn't really want to sort of cheapen his relationship with Bella, even though she's pushing him to go all the way," he told Parade. "He's got this certain idea of how it should go with the love of his life. He wants to do it right and not just follow his base instincts. I guess I'm a bit old fashioned in that way as well."

The young star – who has reportedly been linked to co-star Kristen Stewart – said their intimate moments in the third movie were the most comfortable yet.

"Kissing felt a little bit more natural in 'Eclipse,' even if there was plenty of it. In 'New Moon' and 'Twilight' it was always like, 'Oh, I'm gonna kill you if I kiss you,' or something. It was always kind of odd," he continued. "But, in this one, they both understand their situation a lot more, which makes it easier. It's the first time Kristen and I have been able to just act like a normal couple."

"The Twilight Saga: Eclipse," opens in theaters on June 30.
