Stars Rally Around Ricky Martin At GLAAD Media Awards

Ricky Martin announced that he was gay in March, saying, "I am proud to say that I am a fortunate homosexual man," and his fellow stars voiced their support for the singer at the 21st annual Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation (GLAAD) Media Awards in Century City, Calif. on Saturday.

Access Hollywood spoke to a slew of celebrities who praised Ricky for coming forward and expressed hope that others would follow in his footsteps.

"My lofty goal in this world is that we can live in a world that doesn't judge each other, I just want people to be able to live their lives that are true to them," Drew Barrymore told Access backstage at the GLAAD Awards. I celebrate what [Ricky] is doing because, we have to create a world for each other where acceptance is first and foremost."

"American Idol" Season 8 runner-up Adam Lambert hopes Ricky's bravery will inspire other LGBT celebrities to be more open.

"It's great to see people like [Ricky] feeling liberated to come out and come forward, and hopefully it will open the door wide open for more and more people to be comfortable with who they are," he told Access on the red carpet.

Rob Halford, openly gay singer for heavy metal act Judas Priest, believes Ricky's actions will help the gay Latino community.

"I think Ricky was really eloquent with the statement he made about the reason why he held back," he explained to Access on the red carpet. "At the end of the day you're dealing with a very personal and private issue… What he did was incredibly important for himself and the Latino community."

"Modern Family's" Sofia Vergara echoed others' sentiments, saying, "It shouldn't be an issue any more, but it's hard to change things. He's fantastic."

Wanda Sykes applauded the singer, but also said she wasn't surprised with his news.

"It's not like we didn't know Ricky was gay, come on!" She joked. "But good for him, I wish him well, I'm very happy for him."
