“Anchorman 2” Heist: Thief Makes Off With $300,000 Worth of Stuff From Atlanta Set

Sequel suffers a snafu after criminal pilfered the production's ATL set of thousands of dollars worth of equipment.

It's a story worthy of a Ron Burgundy-style special investigation.

Over the holidays an enterprising thief broke into a warehouse in northwest Atlanta--being rented out by Paramount to film scenes from Will Ferrell's "Anchorman: The Legend Continues"--and stole $300,000 worth of copper wire.

Per WSB-TV, which obtained the police report, in addition to the wire, the intruder got away with four Apple computers as well.

"It's a shame this happened because Atlanta is really trying to get big in the film industry," the building's owner, Davis Nort, told the station, noting that the perp gained entry through a rear garage door.

The local Fox affiliate quoted the building's landlord as saying there were two break-ins--the first occurring around Christmastime and the second on New Year's Day just before producers of the Will Ferrell comedy were due to start production in the city.

"Anchorman 2" gets a release date

A $5,000 reward is being offered for its safe return.

The studio declined to discuss the matter while a spokesman for the Atlanta Police Department did not return a phone call seeking comment.

"Anchorman: The Legend Continues" is slated to theaters on Dec. 20, 2013.
