A day after pop star Ariana Grande came under fire for video that appeared to show her licking pastries at a Southern California doughnut shop and saying, "I hate America," the establishment is now being investigated for possible health code violations, deputies said Wednesday.

Surveillance video of Grande's visit to Wolfee Donuts in Lake Elsinore on the night of July 4 appears to show the singer licking a tray of doughnuts that were sitting uncovered on a display shelf in the store, Sgt. Mike Manning said in a Riverside County Sheriff's Department statement.

The owner of Wolfee Donuts filed a police report alleging deliberate food tampering Tuesday after discovering the footage.

Though deputies determined that the video showed Grande and another man appearing to "maliciously lick" the doughnuts, the sheriff's department and the Riverside County Department of Environmental Health were investigating Wolfee Donuts to determine whether the contaminated doughnuts were thrown away or sold to other customers.

Video of the incident, which was obtained by TMZ, also recorded Grande seeming to say "What...is that? I hate America. I hate Americans."

Grande issued a statement to The Associated Press Wednesday in which she apologized "for not using more discretion in my choice of words."

During the most recent routine inspection of Wolfee Donuts in January, the store received a score of 90, the lowest possible score to receive an A grade, and was cited for multiple violations including food obtained from unapproved sources and food not separated and protected from contamination, according to the report issued by the Department of Environmental Health.

On Wednesday night, the doughnut shop confirmed that they were docked one letter grade by the Health Department, leaving them with a "B" rating.
