“Independence Day 2's” Official Title Revealed During Cast Live Stream

The highly anticipated sequel to "Independence Day" has an official title–"Independence Day: Resurgence."

The cast revealed the second installment's title during a Q&A live stream Monday, in which the key players gave some insights into what we can expect from next summer's blockbuster. The movie, which will take place in 2016, examines how the world has come together and prepared for an "inevitable" second invasion.

Jeff Goldblum, who starred in the first movie with Will Smith, tried to give some details about his character and the plot without spoiling too much.

"The world is different," he explained. "I, for now, as you say, it's my job to lead the way in making sure everyone's safe on this precious and beautiful planet."

He added, "...We're all working in a beautiful way under not the best circumstances across borders. Borders are no longer relevant in the same way and that's a very beautiful idea in the brotherhood and sisterhood of mankind."

Because the movie takes place 20 years after the original–time has advanced in the same way as real time–Bill Pullman finds himself replaced by a new, female president (Sela Ward) who will take a tougher stand than Pullman's character originally did.

"It's a totally different political landscape," Ward said. "She's tougher, more decisive. Not afraid to use force. Sorry, Bill. It's a very different time."

But what fans may be surprised to hear is that director Roland Emmerich didn't want to revisit his megahit film and turn it into a sequel, but the changing times made him realize he wanted to bring certain images to the big screen? What specifically did he envision?

Advanced technology. Even though everyone made sure to contain spoilers, they did show off images of the set and props, which definitely support Goldblum's opinion about the film's weaponry, including a "moon tug": "bigger punch and bigger shields."

On “Late Night With Seth Meyers,” Maya Rudolph does the Rachel Dolezal impression she would have done if she were still on “SNL.”

As for what a moon tug is? Liam Hemsworth can tell you that. He shared the backstory of his character, whose name is Jake and who drives the forklift-like machine for the lunar outpost of a new initiative.

"It's kind of unlucky how he ends up in that ship," he said. "Jake lost his parents in the first attack, he grew up in an orphanage, and eventually joined the military and became a fighter pilot, and eventually became one of the best of the best fighter pilots. I think his ego kind of got in the way, he made a bad decision and put someone's life at risk, and he got the great job of driving this moon tug, which is basically a forklift on the moon."
