Julia Roberts, Jennifer Aniston and Jodie Foster Added to NBC's “Red Nose Day” Special

NBC is adding the star power of Julia Roberts, Jennifer Aniston, Neil Patrick Harris, Coldplay, Reese Witherspoon, Julianne Moore and Leslie Mann to its "Red Nose Day" charity special.

The performers will join the more than two-dozen celebrities previously announced for the three-hour fundraiser featuring music and comedy. Jennifer Hudson, Will Ferrell, John Legend and Sam Smith are among those scheduled to take part.

Donations will go to anti-poverty groups benefiting children and families in Africa, Asia, Latin American and the United States, NBC said. The 12 charities sharing in the donations include the Boys & Girls Clubs of America, Children's Health Fund and United Way.

NBC also announced the release of a "Red Nose Day" App allowing iPhone and Android users to add a red nose image to existing photographs and to donate directly to the Red Nose Day Fund.

The May 21 special airing 8 to 11 p.m. EDT is the first U.S. Red Nose Day. Operated by Comic Relief in Britain, Red Nose Day was co-founded in 1985 by "Love Actually" filmmaker Richard Curtis. Red Nose Day USA is run by Comic Relief Inc., an independent sister organization of Britain's Comic Relief.

In Britain, celebrities, schoolchildren and others traditionally don red clown noses to promote the biennial March event, a reflection of its lighthearted approach.
