Lupita Nyong'o's One-of-a-Kind Pearl Oscar Gown Stolen From Hotel Room

Lupita Nyong'o's 2015 Oscar gown — the custom Calvin Klein Collection dress made of over 6,000 pearls that she just wore on Sunday — has been stolen from her West Hollywood hotel room.

The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department confirmed Thursday it is Nyong'o's Oscar dress that has gone missing.

Investigators believe the dress went missing sometime between 8 a.m. and 9 p.m. Wednesday. LA Sheriff's detectives will be examining security surveillance video, guest logs, and will interview staff and other witnesses regarding the disappearance.

E! News confirmed police received a call at 11:25 p.m. on Wednesday night claiming that a dress valued at $150,000 had been taken.

"This is a terribly unfortunate situation, and we are working with law enforcement on their investigation," said a London West Hollywood hotel spokesperson in a statement to NBC4 Thursday.

The dress took months to create and was designed by Francisco Costa in collaboration with Nyong'o.

"(We created) a series of textures with intricate placements of a variety of different-sized pearls," Costa told Vogue. "We looked at a variety of different pearls — South Sea, iridescent, and natural — and decided that the natural pearls looked the most beautiful."
