Oscar Winner Marion Cotillard Thrust Into Unwelcome Spotlight During Pitt, Jolie Breakup

Cotillard has acted opposite the biggest names in Hollywood, including Damon, Day-Lewis, DiCaprio and Bale

Right about now you may be asking yourself, "Who the heck is Marion Cotillard?"

For starters, she's an Academy Award-winning actress, having won the coveted best actress prize in 2008 for her role in "La Vie en Rose."  Cotillard became the first French actress to win the Oscar for a leading role in a French language film.

She was also a 2015 Oscar nominee for her leading role in "Two Days, One Night," losing to Julianne Moore for her role in the Alzheimer's drama "Still Alice."

The 40-year-old French actress began her career in television overseas in the early '90s, but didn't truly come to the attention of American audiences until her 2003 role in the film "Big Fish" co-starring Ewan McGregor and Jessica Lange. After her Oscar win in 2008, opportunities in American roles followed. She co-starred in 2009's "Nine" opposite multiple Oscar winner Daniel Day-Lewis, and "Public Enemies" in 2009 with Johnny Depp.

Her American breakthrough role was as the female lead in the high-concept thriller "Inception" opposite Leonardo DiCaprio in 2010. After that other blockbuster films quickly followed:  "Contagion" opposite Matt Damon in 2011, "The Dark Knight Rises" in 2012 with Christian Bale, and a comedic turn in 2013 in "Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues."

Cotillard recently wrapped filming "Allied" with Brad Pitt. The actor's recent divorce announcement led to speculation about a romantic involvement with Pitt, which she adamantly denied.

"Firstly, many years ago, I met the man of my life, father of our son and of the baby we are expecting. He is my love, my best friend, the only one that I need," Cotillard wrote. "Secondly to those who have indicated that I am devastated, I am very well thank you."

Cotillard is expecting her second child with French actor/director Guillaume Canet, her partner since 2007. Cotillard and Canet are parents to 5-year-old son Marcel.
