Ronda Rousey to Host ‘Saturday Night Live' on Jan. 23

For one of its first new episodes of the year, "Saturday Night Live" is doubling down on girl power.

NBC announced that on the Saturday, Jan. 23 episode, the show's second in 2016, UFC powerhouse Ronda Rousey will make her "SNL" debut as host, along with first-time musical guest Selena Gomez.

And they aren't the only first-timers the late-night sketch show has on tap. For the show's Jan. 16 return, "SNL" revealed "Girls" and "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" star Adam Driver will host and country musician Chris Stapleton will feature as musical guest.

Rousey is the latest in a long line of (mostly male) athletes who've graced the "SNL" stage to test out their comedic timing. That list of sports stars includes Michael Jordan, Derek Jeter, Peyton Manning, Charles Barkley, Tom Brady, Michael Phelps, Chris Evert (the show's first female athlete host), and Nancy Kerrigan.

"SNL" won't mark Rousey's first foray into the acting world, however. In the past two years, she's had roles in "The Expendables 3" and "Furious 7," as well as a cameo in the "Entourage" movie.

"Saturday Night Live" returns Saturday, Jan. 16 at 11:30 p.m. on NBC.

(E! and NBC are both part of the NBCUniversal family.)
