Daniel Day-Lewis To Play Lincoln In Spielberg Biopic

Abraham Lincoln is about to drink your milkshake.

Long stuck in production purgatory, Steven Spielberg’s biopic about the 16th President of the United States is finally being made, with Daniel-Day Lewis playing the famous politician.

Entertainment Weekly reports that the film, appropriately titled “Lincoln,” is written by Tony winning playwright Tony Kushner (“Angels in America”), which in turn, is based off of Doris Kearns Goodwin’s biography “Team of Rivals,” that chronicles the president’s time in office.

The film will reportedly focus on the most pivotal point in Lincoln’s presidency, from the clash between Lincoln and his cabinet as well as his long battle for the freedom of slaves and the culmination of the Civil War.

According to Popeater, the film is slated to be released some time in 2012 in time for that most wonderful time of the year—the Award Show season. And with a stalwart team like Spielberg and two-time Oscar winner Day-Lewis, it seems like the perfect formula for Oscar domination.
