Iraqi war flick "The Hurt Locker" won big at the Writers' Guild Awards Saturday evening, continuing its streak of awards-season victories that director Kathryn Bigelow could carry through to the Oscars.
"Hurt Locker" picked up best original screenplay, Reuters reported, while "Up in the Air," George Clooney's star vehicle, won for best adapted screenplay at the ceremony, which honored the best screenwriting in this year's film catalogue.
"The Hurt Locker" is the brainchild of Mark Boal, who worked with Bigelow to create the film, which is expected to rival "Avatar" at the Oscars.
"Avatar" was directed by Bigelow's ex-husband, James Cameron, whose 3-D flick topped his other box office great, "Titanic," to become the world's highest-grossing movie.
Other winners at the WGA ceremony were "30 Rock" and "Mad Men," which picked up awards in the TV division for best comedy series and best drama series, respectively.
New sitcom "Modern Family" also won for best new series and comedy episode, while mainstay "House" won for best drama episode.
Larry David and writer/director Barry Levinson were also given lifetime achievement awards at the event.
