Katy Perry a No-Go For People's Choice Awards

The recently-divorced pop star isn't ready to surface just yet.

Singer Katy Perry was supposed to make her first public appearance since her sudden divorce from husband Russell Brand at the People's Choice Awards tomorrow night...but it seems as though she isn't ready to surface just yet.

The 27-year-old recently returned to Twitter to thank her fans for making her "heart happy," but then returned to the social network site to announce that she was pulling out of the upcoming event.

"Unfortunately, I will not be able to attend," wrote Perry, before once again expressing her gratitude for her fans' support. "I want to thank u all for voting for Selected Reading:me, fingers crossed! #KATYCATS."

The announcement comes as Perry has had to clear the air around comments being made on her behalf about her recent split - most notably several inflammatory remarks made by her parents, Keith and Mary Hudson.

The Hudsons, who are pastors at an Ohio church called Church on the Rise, called the divorce a "gift from God," which prompted Perry to tweet: ""Concerning the gossip, I want to be clear that NO ONE speaks for me. Not a blog, magazine, 'close sources' or my family."

The star-studded People's Choice Awards will air live tomorrow night on CBS at 9 PM ET.
