John Mellencamp: Internet as Big a Threat as A-bomb

The Internet is generally considered to be a good thing, a communication tool the likes of which the world has never seen before.

But rock star John Mellencamp believes it's one of the most destructive forces ever created. His comments on the matter could even be called explosive.

"I think the Internet is the most dangerous thing invented since the atomic bomb," he said during a seminar at the Grammy Museum in Los Angeles. "It's destroyed the music business. It's going to destroy the movie business."

Mellencamp, 58, also said that the U.S. was at danger from "some smart people, the China-Russians or something" taking over utilities or other critical services by hacking into our computer systems.

The "Jack and Diane" and "Pink Houses" singer has long been interested in politics and stumped for Barack Obama during his presidential campaign. He's also worked with country music icon Willie Nelson on the Farm Aid concert series.
