John Walsh: Ronni Chasen Tipster “A Hero”

"America's Most Wanted" host John Walsh said the public was instrumental in leading authorities to a possible suspect in the murder of Hollywood publicist Ronni Chasen.

"I think the key to this whole case is the tipster. I call him a hero," Walsh told Billy Bush and Kit Hoover when he called into to Access Hollywood Live on Thursday.

The Chasen case was first profiled on the FOX crime series on November 20.

"We thought that [the tipster] was very, very serious, he was very compassionate and we turned the tip over immediately to the Beverly Hills PD," Walsh said. "We took him very seriously, he was dead on."

On Wednesday, Beverly Hills police said they belived that Chasen's death was a "robbery gone bad" committed by Harold Martin Smith. Police Chief David Snowden said the gun Smith used to commit suicide earlier this month appeared to be the same weapon used to kill Chasen on November 16.

"I really, really hope this is the end of it for Ronni Chasen's family," Walsh continued. "I think that this was probably a random robbery that went bad and I think people in Beverly Hills and the LA area can take a big sigh of relief that a dangerous violent guy isn't out there.

"Again, the public made a difference. I do believe that there are people out there that can make a difference," Walsh added.

Police also said on Wednesday that the tipster might be eligible for a 5,000 reward. Authorities also stressed that the Chasen investigation is still ongoing.
