Claremont Hotel Lures Michelin-Starred Chef to Open Restaurant, Renovates Rooms

Michelin-starred chef Dominique Crenn will open a French brasserie inside the renovated Claremont Hotel in 2016.

San Francisco Business Times noted that the addition of Crenn's forthcoming restaurant inside the Berkeley hotel is part of the upgrades from the Claremont's two-year old owners. FRHI Hotels & Resorts, which operates San Francisco's Fairmont Hotel, purchased the Claremont in partnership with financier Richard C. Blum and family in 2014. 276 rooms and suites are also getting a boost.

Crenn has dubbed her cooking "poetic culinaria" and the dish names at her Michelin-starred flagship San Francisco restaurant Atelier Crenn (she opened the more casual Petit Crenn last summer) reflect the soul of a poet. "Atelier Crenn: Metamorphosis of Taste" was recently published by Houghon Mifflin Harcourt. Dishes on the current Atelier tasting menu include "I touch the salted water, and hold the shell against my ear" and "Strolling on the beach."

The unnamed Claremont project is expected to be a more approachable affair.
