Michael Jackson was working on two new albums at the time of his death, Billboard reported Thursday.

While his 50-concert residency at London's O2 arena was regarded as a move to get out of debt, the new albums were less about a payday and more about his fans, Billboard reported:

Billboard has learned that the singer was working on two albums at the time of his death: one in the pop vein that made him famous and another that would consist of an instrumental classical composition. And while some believe the star wanted to recapture his '80s glory days -- or escape financial trouble -- those who worked with him recently say he was motivated by his fans and his children.

While Jackson's love-of-the-game approach is admirable, the sales definitely could have taken a chunk out of that reported $400 million debt.

Even so, singer-songwriter and producer, Akon, who was working on the pop album with Jackson, insists the albums really were all about the fans.

"He said, 'My fans are still there. They still love me. They're alive,'" Akon told Billboard. "His kids are like his first priority, and they had never seen him perform live. He was trying to create the most incredible show for his kids."

In addition to the two unfinished records, Tommy Mottola, the former CEO of Sony Music, told the Associated Press that Jackson has "dozens and dozens of songs that did not end up on his albums."

"People will be hearing a lot of that unreleased material for the first time ever. There's just some genius and brilliance in there," Mottola said.

So just like our beloved Tupac, we may be buying new Michael Jackson albums for years to come.
