One of two small-town Ohio police chiefs being investigated in connection with a burglary of the home where Sarah Jessica Parker's surrogate mom lives says it  is all just a misunderstanding.

Martins Ferry Police Chief Barry Carpenter told a West Virginia radio host he was driving past the home of the surrogate mother one day when he noticed that her front door was open, according to TMZ. Carpenter claimed he briefly went inside to check it out and noticed what looked like a plaster of Paris cast of the surrogate's stomach.

As for a subsequent meeting with National Enquirer reporter, Carpenter told the radio station he just wanted to "mess with him and jerk him around."

Carpenter and Bridgeport Police Chief Chad DoJack are being probed the Bureau of Criminal Investigation over a break-in at the home of the woman carrying Parker's and Matthew Broderick's twins. According to WTRF 7 News, the CBS affiliate in the Ohio Valley, the two police chiefs were allegedly attempting to sell information to the tabloid.

The woman is reportedly no longer living in the home.

Authorities could not confirm to the station the details of the case, however, WTRF reported that both the chiefs are aware of the investigation. Neither has been charged.
