NBC: 1 killed, 8 hurt in D.C. shooting

WASHINGTON - One person was killed and at least eight more wounded in an apparent drive-by shooting in southeast Washington on Tuesday morning, NBC affiliate WRC reported on its Web site.

WRC said one person died at the scene in the 4000 block of South Capitol Street.

D.C. police responded to the shooting at about 7:30 p.m. An AK-47-type weapon reportedly was thrown from a green sedan that police chased through parts of D.C. and across the Prince George's County line.

At least one police vehicle crashed during the chase, injuring several officers, NBC News reported. It was unclear whether the suspect vehicle was stopped.

NBC reported that four of the wounded were in life-threatening condition and four more were in serious condition.

There was no immediate word on the reason for the shooting.
