Special Olympians Reach Out to Eunice Shriver

JFK's sister in critical condition

Eunice Kennedy Shriver has drawn support from countless Special Olympians and their families as she lies in critical condition at Cape Cod Hospital in Massachusetts.

Since her hospitalization on Friday, the 88-year-old younger sister of ex-prez John F. Kennedy and founder of the Special Olympics has received cards, e-mails and calls from people who live and work with people with mental disabilities, a Special Olympics spokeswoman told The Associated Press. Many have also posted messages on EuniceKennedyShriver.org

The cause for Shriver's hospitalization is unknown, though she has suffered a string of strokes in recent years.

Shriver's daughter Maria and her husband, California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger, have reportedly been at her side near the Shriver and Kennedy compound. Shriver's brother Sen. Ted Kennedy is currently being treated for brain cancer in Hyannis Port.
