The biggest calendar sale in the world is a Bay Area ritual.
That's Pegasus Books's story, anyway -- and with 30,000 calendars sold to eager day-counters on New Year's Day alone, who's to argue?
KQED News notes that the bookstore has been big into the calendar business for 40 years. The bookstore sells 85,000 calendars every year, a key part of a business plan that's helped keep it alive while other independent bookstores have fallen by the wayside.
It's working: calendar aficionados are so into Pegasus's sale that they "change their airplane tickets sot that they don't miss it," according to owner Amy Thomas.
It makes sense: for everyone, tomorrow's a new year, which means a new calendar.
