The Zenn car gets its name from: zero emissions no noise.

More and more electric car dealers keep popping up in the Bay Area. Most are a lot more affordable than the six-figure Tesla electric sports car.

The fully-electric Zenn is the latest addition to the green car market.

The name Zenn comes from "zero emission, no noise." The cars are made in Canada, are powered by battery and have most of the features you'd find in a normal car.

But with a $15,000 price tag, they make an affordable alternative if you're looking to go electric.

"There's nothing to service really in the vehicle," Zenn Motor Company CEO Ian Clifford said," You don't need a tune up, you don't need oil changes, you don't need an emissions test, obviously, so it's just a very efficient way of driving through our cities and our neighborhoods."

The Zenn has a government mandated top speed of 25 miles per hour and a range of 40 miles.  a faster, longer-range car is planned.

  • pip Friday, Jan 2 at 6:50 PM FLAG COMMENT As far as I can see EESTOR has many other options with the battery I am thinking electric motorcycles and power chairs. I hope that we here more news from them soon. This should be one of the priority technologies the US government should be investing our money in to save our domestic car companies.
  • ev owner Wednesday, Dec 3 at 3:09 PM FLAG COMMENT I commute 40 miles a day at highway speed in my 1996 Solectria. (12 years old) Yes it has been done before. The 25 MPH limit is mandated by law as Zenns do not have all the safety requirements of US cars (you have to crash test 6 of them, they must have airbags. etc. etc) Also, you can remove a governor, and make it go fast, but also void your warranty.
  • hongkongtraffiC Wednesday, Dec 3 at 2:53 PM FLAG COMMENT there already enough drivers puttering along at 25 mph on todays freeway for no reason. i wouldn't want to see a car that gives them an actual excuse to drive that slow...seriously 25 mph ? in what country was this acceptable? hmm, maybe one that had to keep even numbered cars off the streets before the olympics?
  • keesbriggs Wednesday, Dec 3 at 2:38 PM FLAG COMMENT How about mentioning where the dealership will be? Duh?
