Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger wants to power California up with the help of lasers.

Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger is banking on cutting edge nuclear technology to one-day power California's homes and businesses.

Monday morning the governator toured the Lawrence Livermore National Lab, which will be home to the world's largest nuclear laser system when completed in March 2009.

This laser technology could eventually generate 1,000 times more power than what the entire United States currently uses.

    But the work takes time.

A demonstration plant is not expected to be up and running until 2020.
