Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., was the most recent politician to get the full tour of Google's Mountain View headquarters Monday.

Pelosi met with Google CEO Eric Schmidt at about 3:45 p.m. on Monday.

Part of the visit took a "fireside chat" format," Pelosi's office said.

Pelosi said her trip to Google is part of an effort to make innovation and technology more central to America's overall economy and culture.

Democrats have spoken extensively in recent weeks about how, if they take the reigns of both Congress and the White House, they will place a new emphasis on math, science, engineering, research and technology education.

Experts have speculated that companies like Google may forge partnerships with public school systems to help students.
