It was a memorable Memorial Day for an Inland Empire boy battling cancer.
San Bernardino Sheriff John McMahon and several other deputies made a surprise visit Monday to the home of Odie Garcia, an 8-year-old who is fighting lymphoma and dreams of one day becoming a law enforcement officer.
Odie was given a ride in a patrol car and showered with gifts, including a department baseball signed by Sheriff McMahon and the deputies in attendance.
The visit was arranged by the Debbie Chisholm Foundation, a law enforcement-based charity that grants wishes for children who are seriously ill.
