Crews clean up after honey spilled all over a SoCal freeway.

A big rig hauling 42,000 pounds of honey created "one sweet mess" when it overturned on the 605 Freeway on Monday afternoon, forcing the closure of four lanes through the city of Industry, Caltrans officials said.

The semi-truck tipped onto its side about 2 p.m. on the northbound 605 Freeway at Valley Boulevard, between the 60 and 10 freeways, Caltrans said.

Aerial footage showed the honey leaking onto the freeway shoulder and a miles-long traffic jam.

Connectors from the 60 Freeway to the northbound 605 Freeway were closed during the cleanup, officials said.

No other vehicles were involved in the crash, according to the California Highway Patrol.

Caltrans officials urged motorists to avoid the area.

The unusual spill inspired several punny comments on Twitter, even from law enforcement.

"Honey, I'm going to be late," the CHP tweeted.
