A report finds the trial rollout of California's new standardized exams, administered for the first time on computers, has been plagued by technical glitches.
The Los Angeles Times reports Monday that students taking the tests this spring experienced slow connections and mysterious log-offs -- and in some cases their work disappeared completely.
Because it was a trial run, this year's results will not be used to evaluate students, teachers or schools.
The California Assessment of Student Performance and Progress exam replaces multiple-choice, fill-in-the-bubble exams, taken with pencil and paper.
The Times says for years, those test scores defined the progress of schools and districts, determining awards and sanctions, even real estate prices.
As of last week, more than 2.7 million students had completed the tests.
