One person died and two others suffered minor injuries following a collision in unincorporated Marin County Friday night.
Around 8:55 p.m., California Highway Patrol officers received a report of a two-vehicle collision on Sir Francis Drake Boulevard, east of Samuel P. Taylor State Park, according to CHP officials.
Witnesses told officers that one of the vehicles collided with another vehicle that was resting on its side
A preliminary investigation indicated a white Kia Optima was traveling west on Sir Francis Drake Boulevard. For an unknown reason, the Kia drifted to the right side, off the roadway and struck a tree, CHP officials said.
The impact caused the Kia to turn onto its left side, as it continued sliding and reentered the roadway, crossing into the opposite side of traffic.
Around the same time, gray Honda CRV was traveling west on Sir
Francis Drake Boulevard. The driver of the Honda attempted to break to avoid hitting the Kia, but was unable to stop, according to CHP officials.
The Honda then struck the roof of the Kia. The driver of the Kia was pronounced dead at the scene. Their dentity has not been revealed, CHP officials said.

The driver and his female passenger were both taken to the hospital with injuries not considered life-threatening.
Sir Francis Drake Boulevard was closed for about three hours as officers investigated the collision.
