Sanders Makes Stop at The Wiltern, Clinton Speaks at Stanford

The Democratic candidates are gearing up for primaries in Washington, North Dakota and Wisconsin over the two weeks before the June 7 California primary

Hillary Clinton and Bernie Sanders brought their Democratic presidential campaigns to California as they gear up for another round of primaries.

Clinton, who won Arizona's primary on Tuesday, delivered a counter-terrorism speech Wednesday at Stanford University. She pledged to defeat the Islamic State group and argued that her opponents are not up to the task. The Democratic front-runner said the U.S. must adapt to a sophisticated adversary yet Republican presidential contenders offer only bluster that alienates U.S. allies.

She also stressed the importance of NATO in light of Republican front-runner Donald Trump's comments that the U.S. should rethink its involvement with the alliance. Clinton said if Trump gets his way, "it will be like Christmas in the Kremlin."

Sanders began the day in San Diego, where he spoke Tuesday at the Convention Center about the attacks in Brussels, reforming the criminal justice system and other issues.

Before he arrived  there, however, he made a surprise stroll along Hollywood  Boulevard, shaking hands with supporters and posing for photos.  Sanders was in Hollywood for an appearance on "Jimmy Kimmel Live."

Clinton also is scheduled to be on "Jimmy Kimmel Live" Thursday, her second appearance on the program since November.

Sanders arrived later Wednesday at a rally at The Wiltern theater in Koreatown where thousands of supporters packed the venue to cheer for Sanders. The event began around 7 p.m. at the historic concert venue near Wilshire Boulevard and Western Avenue in Koreatown.

The huge turnout of supporters showed up, touting signs that read variations of "Feel the Bern."

Dozens of vocal, sign-toting supporters of Sanders marched through the streets of downtown San Diego early Wednesday They could be heard chanting "hey, hey, ho, ho, corporate greed has got to go" before posing for a group photo.

The Vermont senator currently trails former Secretary of State Clinton in the delegate count.

Clinton will participate in a pair of fundraisers while she's in Southern California, beginning with a late-afternoon fundraiser at the Santa Monica home of Julia Franz and Chris Silbermann. Following her appearance on "Jimmy Kimmel Live," Clinton will speak at an evening event at the Avalon Hollywood nightclub, which will also include performances by the singers Estelle and Ben Harper. Hip-hop music magnate Russell Simmons will serve as master of ceremonies.
