Fire Destroys Wilbur Hot Springs Lodge

WILBUR, Calif. (AP) - A fire has destroyed much of a historic lodge in Northern California.

The San Francisco Chronicle reports the fire burned the Wilbur Hot Springs lodge in rugged Colusa County on Saturday, triggering an evacuation of about 60 people who were staying at the retreat.

The fire appeared to have started in the kitchen and spread to the second floor of the wooden, 1863 structure.

Kent Boes, a firefighter with the Williams Fire Protection Authority, said the structure is still standing, but will need a lot of work.

The lodge, about a 2 1/2 -hour drive north of San Francisco, is a destination for urban dwellers attracted to its hot mineral spring baths and nature preserve.
