Flames Chew Threw Power Poles in Fresno

FRESNO, Calif. (AP) - A massive fire at a power pole yard in Fresno is sending flames and smoke soaring into the sky.

There are no reports of injuries.

KCRA-TV reports Thursday morning that the blaze was reported before dawn.

No one lives in the area along State Route 99 northwest of downtown and no evacuations have been ordered. The fire is near Brawley Avenue and Golden State Boulevard and the morning commute could be impacted due to the fire.

Fresno fire spokesman Lawrence French says there are few fire hydrants in the area, making battling the fire difficult.

Officials say Pacific Gas and Electric owns the poles, but stores them on the private property.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
