“I Want to Hold My Son”: Mother Pleads for Help to Find Son's Killer

An inconsolable mother of a 25-year-old man fatally shot nearly a week ago pleaded Thursday for the public's help to find the person who killed her son.

Juan Videl was shot at Jack in the Box Friday while he was working and his killer was caught on surveillance camera.

"I want to hold my son," Mary Smay said. "If anybody knows who did this, who took my son away, you need to turn him in."

Smay said her only son was recently engaged and just graduated as a pharmacy technician but still lived with his mom.

No customers were in the fast food restaurant but Vidal was with another restaurant employee when the shooter burst inside.

Surveillance video shows the gunman wearing what appears to be a Halloween mask covering part of his face.

Homicide detectives said the motive is robbery but because it happened so fast the gunman left with no cash or property.

Investigators said the gunman did not know the victim and there was no indication he was targeted, said Detective Adan Torres, of the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department.

There is no description on the gunman since his face was covered.

Detectives believe a second person drove a getaway car parked near the drive thru and took off east on Flair Drive.

The car is only described as a dark-colored sedan.
