Kayakers Have Close Call With Humpback Whale Off Moss Landing

Some kayakers off Northern California were almost crushed to death by a massive humpback whale, according to a local whale-watching outfit.

Sanctuary Cruises provided video it says was shot by a cruise passenger on Sunday morning near Moss Landing, near Monterey.

In the clip, a whale can be seen breaching near a number of kayakers, including a pair on a tandem kayak.

The ship's captain estimates the whale "was heavy." As in 40 or 50 tons heavy.

The man and woman were reporedly knocked out of the vessel and into the water. They were both wearing life vests, however, and fellow kayakers managed to help them get back to shore.

No injuries were reported.
