Imagine walking down the street and out of the blue you're punched in the face. That's what happened to 11 year old Nicholas, but what happened next has made him love Los Angeles even more.
After hearing that Nicholas Freeman was attacked by a homeless man while here on vacation from Australia, the Los Angeles Police Department arranged time Monday to provide him and his family with "better memories."
They wanted to let the Freeman family know there are good people in the city of angels so they were given the VIP behind the scenes treatment by the LAPD bomb squad, SWAT and air patrol units.
"My love for Los Angeles hasn't changed for this incident, especially now that police took me on this wonderful tour," Nicholas Freeman told NBC4.
"You know what, he told me he wanted to be an LAPD officer. I said come onboard, I'll still be here," LAPD Officer Jake McMains said.
Nicholas’ father, Peter Freeman, is a firefighter in Australia. He came to LA with his family for the World Police & Fire Games. He says the support his family has received from the LAPD has made up for the unprovoked attack on his son.

"My boy Nick says he has 2 best friends now," Peter Freeman said.
The Freeman family is already planning on coming back to LA next year to visit Officers McMains and Francisco Martinez.
The man who attacked Nicholas has been identified as 46-year-old David Hines. He’s been charged with three counts of battery.
