Man Sentenced for Voluntary Manslaughter, Other Charges in Grocery Store Shooting

The shooting happened on July 20, 2014 outside a Vons grocery store at 330 West Felicita in Escondido.

A man who pleaded guilty to voluntary manslaughter and related charges in a shooting that left one man dead and two others wounded outside a popular grocery store has been sentenced to 19 years and eight months in prison. 

Omar Magadan, who was 21 when he was arrested, received his sentenced in a Vista courtroom on Wednesday. He had previously pleaded guilty to voluntary manslaughter and related charges. 

The shooting happened on July 20, 2014 outside a Vons grocery store at 330 West Felicita in Escondido.

Escondido resident Miguel Pedroza Fuentes, 38, was killed. Two other men were shot, but survived their injuries.

The three victims were sitting inside a car when three suspects approached the car and starting arguing.

Someone fired several shots into the car, and the suspects ran away, according to police. Authorities said the victims did not return gunfire.

At the time of the shooting, the shopping center was still bustling with evening shoppers.
