Perris Councilman Resigns After Guilty Plea to Drug Charges

Julio Rodriguez faced felony drug charges over an incident at a motel last year

Perris City Councilman Julio Rodriguez has officially resigned after signing a plea deal for his meth arrest, officials said.

Rodriguez, 28, pleaded guilty on Monday to a felony meth possession charge. He was arrested in connection with the drug charges at a Perris motel last June.

Rodriguez was charged with felony possession of methamphetamine after he called police to report his city-issued iPad was stolen from a Perris motel.

Prosecutors said Rodriguez pleaded guilty to one count of furnishing a controlled substance in exchange for sex.

Rodriguez’s attorney said he expects his client to receive five years probation when he is sentenced on Friday.
