Police Arrest 5 in Alleged Assault, Home Invasion Robbery in Brentwood

Police arrested three juveniles and two adults over the weekend on suspicion of a home invasion robbery and assault in July in Brentwood, police said today.

The robbery, in which three of the suspects allegedly assaulted a man and his wife, took place July 22 on Dill Court, according to police.

Officers arrested two female suspects, both 17, a 16-year-old male suspect, and Pittsburg residents Usiel Beltran, 20, and Moises Sumale, 19, on suspicion of attempted murder, conspiracy, robbery of an inhabited dwelling, burglary and assault with a deadly weapon, police said.

One of the female juvenile suspects lives in Brentwood and the other lives in Pittsburg, as does the male juvenile suspect, police said.

Beltran, Moises and one of the female suspects allegedly entered the home of the two 54-year-old victims while they were sleeping and attacked them with baseball bats or other blunt objects, according to police.

The assault left the husband with serious injuries and he is still in the hospital in serious condition. Doctors treated his wife and have since released her, according to police.

Officers believe the suspects targeted the victims and determined that the trio who invaded the home took some of the couple's property, police said, adding that some property has been recovered.

Police Lt. Doug Silva said he could not say what the suspects' possible motive was because of the ongoing investigation.

Police believe the juvenile male suspect and the female juvenile suspect from Brentwood conspired with the other three suspects to commit the assault and home invasion, police said.

The juveniles will be tried as adults and a judge set bail for each at $2.18 million, police said.

Arraignment is set for Oct. 1 in Contra Costa County Superior Court, according to police.
